Founded in June 2020, Àtic Barcelona is a business centre comprising almost 2,000m2 in the Eixample neighbourhood of Barcelona in the old headquarters of the editorial, El Hogar y la Moda (Home and Fashion), containing one of the block’s hidden gems: one of the few hypostyle halls left in the city. The project was conceived as a small neighbourhood with a character strictly derived from Mediterranean and Barcelona styles, with bright, clean streets and squares with offices and workspaces interspersed among them, just like the stores and shops in the rest of the city. This area was thought up as being highly sustainable and suited for the users’ well-being, while also being designed for entrepreneurs and start-ups to meet in common areas to promote synergy with other professionals.
The choice of materials and construction systems is based on quality, durability, and little need for maintenance, and has been backed up by the precision and soundness of Calaf Constructora. Cubiñá Contract has manufactured practically all the custom furniture: planters, benches, shelves, filing cabinets, and tables in the co-working offices. The boards, designed by the architect, Carlos Gelpí, are made of a partially recycled pine shaving chipboard in an eco-friendly melamine seal, with traceable non-deforestation and replanting and an FSC certification. For this project, Cubiñá Contract has also provided emblematic pieces, such as the M114 ONA hanging rack (designed by Montse Padrós and Carles Riart), as well as the Actiu seating. Cubiñá is a family business with more than 100 years of experience in the interior design sector and a great ally to interior designers, architects, and decoration enthusiasts.
