Emiliana Design Studio

Emiliana design studio was founded at the end of the 90’s by Ana Mir and Emili Padrós, who had recently achieved their MA in Design at London Central Saint Martins School of Art & Design in London. Since the beginning the studio is characterised for promoting a multidisciplinary approach to design practice, this fact has allowed the studio developing a diverse, solid and rich career.

The relevance of the concept in the creative process, the research in the historical and socio-cultural context, the experimentation with different materials, the attention for the details, the exploration in new typologies, the active involvement of the user, the search for a poetic gesture and the use of a particular sense of humour, are among the essential aspects that emerge in the projects of emiliana design studio.

Their designs, concepts and ideas have been displayed in exhibitions in the New York, Milano, Torino, Paris, Madrid, Tokyo, Sidney, Amsterdam, etc. Some of their designs are part of the permanent collections at the FNAC (Fond National d’Art Contemporain, France), the Museum of Art of Indianapolis (USA) and the Museum of Design of Barcelona.
Ana Mir and Emili Padrós have participated in “Design and the Elastic Mind” (2008) and “Safe Design: Takes on Risk” (2006) both at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.

EKOBO, launched in 2003, is a French eco-lifestyle brand specialising the design and manufacture of bamboo tableware and home accessories. Behind EKOBO: Bruno and Boo Louis, a Franco-American husband and wife duo. While they’ve evolved through the years to include other sustainable resources in their range, bamboo has always been at the heart of their work. They are proud to have played a part in making bamboo a mainstream material.

Their premium bamboo fibre collection started with one kid set. As new parents of their first daughter (now 15!), they quickly saw the need for durable, non-toxic dishware for kids. Leaning on years of expertise in Fairtrade bamboo handicraft and a background in product design, in 2010, they developed what is now their signature BIOBU® bamboo fibre eco-composite. This material offers a durable alternative to traditional plastic disposable or fragile dishware and home accessories.
Described as a biopolymer, their bamboo fiber formula is comprised of bamboo fiber, a highly renewable material, and a non-toxic food-grade A5 melamine binder, which helps to extend the life of the products (a sustainable practice!). Their bamboo is responsibly-sourced and managed from its origin until production. It is 100% traceable, collected as sawdust waste from chopstick factories.
They design to do better with less. From the beginning, they want to facilitate eco-gestures in real people’s homes, to save space, and offer multi-functional solutions. From the very start, from the first idea, their designs are to simplify life, celebrate beauty, and fight against waste….it begins with the commitment to using eco-responsible and sustainable materials.

But the range has grown along with their family. They continued to be inspired from moments along the way; from highchair to schoolyard, holiday tables, and camping trips – they always look to the future. Looking ahead means their designs are functional, pragmatic, and very much “no-fuss”. Their products are meant to be used and REUSED by all ages, indoors, and outdoors.
EKOBO now offers over 500 references in a wide palette of forms and colours; thoughtful products designed for modern living. EKOBO. Designed for Good.
